On April 22-24, 2016, the fifth SLCP was convened grandly in Beijing. The conference provided a professional communication platform to international peers in the community of liquid crystal photonics, and provided Chinese scholars and industry colleagues with an excellent opportunity for face-to-face in-depth communication with internationally renowned experts. This academic conference covered various aspects of liquid crystal materials from basic physical and chemical studies to practical applications, including advanced liquid crystal materials, display and photonic devices, electro-optic effect and optical effect, device simulation, liquid crystal polymers and elastomers, optical orientation, polymer stabilized nanostructures, microwave and terahertz devices, etc.
The participants included more than fifty researchers and business representatives in the field of liquid crystal from home and abroad, including Prof. Martin Schadt, inventor of the TN LCD, and Prof. Tomiki Ikeda, Prof. Shin-Tson Wu, Prof. Nelson Tabirian, Prof. Dirk J. Broer, all of whom are well-known experts in the field of liquid crystal. Their brilliant academic reports brought a lot to everyone.
Prof. Yu's lecture entitled "Photodeformable Liquid Crystal Polymers and Transportation of Microliquids" aroused strong interest from the audience at the conference. Xin Qing's oral lecture "Biomimetic Submicroarrayed Liquid Crystal Polymer Films with Different Wettability" and Lang Qin's poster "Phototunable Reflection of Helical Superstructure Induced by Planar Chiral Molecular Switch" stood out from many competitors, and respectively won "Dr. Martin Schadt best paper awards" and "Dr. Martin Schadt best poster awards", which fully displayed the strength and style of the students in our group.
