On the morning of August 6, Prof. Benzhong Tang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a chair professor at Department of Chemistry, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology presented a report at our department on invitation. The report conference was chaired by Prof. Yu Yanlei. Department Head Prof. Limin Wu, Academician Ming Jiang from the Department of Polymers and other teachers and students in related disciplines attended the report conference.
Academician Benzhong Tang is principally engaged in the exploration of polymer synthesis methodology, the development of advanced functional materials, and the study on aggregation-induced emission (AIE). At the report conference, Academician Tang described the discovery of aggregation-induced emission, the studies on theories related to this phenomenon, and the successful application of such molecules with special luminescence phenomenon in sensing, bioimaging, organic light emitting diode and other areas, which aroused extensive interest. The teachers and students at the conference had active exchanges and discussions with Academician Benzhong Tang on relevant content of the report and how to perform scientific researches. In the warm atmosphere of the conference, all the teachers and students present were deeply impressed by Prof. Tang's humorous answers and profound knowledge.
On the afternoon of August 6, members of our research group made further academic exchanges with Academician Tang. They were honored to listen to Prof. Tang's careful guidance and enjoy an in-depth discussion with him regarding the cross-over study and joint development of AIE materials and polymer liquid crystal systems.
