To enhance the exchanges and cooperation of the Department of Materials Science, Fudan University with experts in nanomaterials from other institutions of higher education and research institutes in China, and to better show the new achievements in related research fields, a "Nanomaterials Symposium" was organized under direction of our research group in Fudan University on October 25-27, 2012. The conference was chaired by Prof. Yanlei Yu. Department Head Limin Wu delivered the opening speech and gave the concluding remarks. Nearly one hundred Fudan teachers and students from the Department of Materials, the Department of Polymers and the Department of Chemistry gave audience to the conference.
On the morning of October 26, experts like Research Fellow Yongming Chen from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences who won the financial support from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Research Fellow Weiguo Song from Beijing Institute of Chemistry, CAS, a "973" Chief Scientist who won the financial support from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Research Fellow Shutao Wang , a foreign outstanding young talent of the Institute of Chemistry, Research Fellow Zhixiang Wei from the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology who won the financial support from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Prof. Yongfeng Zhou from Shanghai Jiaotong University who won the financial support from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and Prof. Yong Zhao from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics who won the financial support from the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund presented their academic reports. The reports addressed the synthesis of geometrical polymer molecules and self-assembled nanoparticles, the application of nanostructured materials in catalysis/adsorption, the self-assembly of conductive polymers, the self-assembly of biofilm bionics, the biomimetic micro-nano materials with hierarchical structures, the bionic adhesive materials for cancer cell detection, etc.
On the afternoon of October 26, Young Teachers' Representatives of the Department of Materials, i.e., Prof. Yongfeng Mei, Prof. Ziqi Liang, Prof. Xiaosheng Fang, Prof. Shuxue Zhou, and Associate Prof. Min Chen introduced their own research findings to participants, including the study on creation and functions of novel nanofilms, the zinc sulfide-based nanostructures (controllable growth to UV detector), the new fabrication methods for the study on polymer photovoltaic cells, the preparation and properties of ZrO2 or TiO2 nanoparticles-based functional nanocomposite coatings, the study on synthesis, assembly and application of nanomaterials with hollow structures, etc.
Featuring concentrated orientation and clear objectives, the seminar enabled attendants to learn from and understand each other, having set up an excellent platform for further academic cooperation and exchanges. The seminar was fully supported by the leaders and some teachers of the Department of Materials; we would like to express our heartfelt thanks!
