To strengthen the exchange and cooperation with the Chinese community of polymer materials and promote the development of relevant disciplines, the Department of Materials Science, Fudan University worked with the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Molecular Engineering to hold Frontier Forum on Polymer Materials 2015 on October 15-17. The forum was organized by Prof. Yanlei Yu and invited dozens of well-known experts and scholars from universities and research institutes throughout China; Jing Ma, Chief of Materials Science Section II, Department of Engineering and Materials Science, National Natural Science Foundation of China participated in the conference.

On the morning of October 16, Chief Jing Ma and Prof. Dalin Sun, our department head delivered their opening speeches. Prof. Jiandong Ding from Fudan University and Prof. Shouke Yan from Beijing University of Chemical Technology presided over the conference. Research Fellow Xianhong Wang from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Huai Yang from Peking University, Prof. Xiaolin Xie from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Zhihua Gan from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Prof. Xudong Chen from Sun Yat-Sen University, and Prof. Zhongming Li from Sichuan University presented their academic reports that covered the carbon dioxide-based novel polyol materials, the special liquid crystal materials, the polymer nano drug delivery systems, the application of Raman spectrum, the crystal morphology and structure of polymers, etc., which manifested the importance and challenge of the conversion from basic researches to practical applications of polymer materials at full.

On the afternoon of October 16, Prof. Meifang Zhu from Donghua University and Prof. Limin Wu from Fudan University presided over the report conference. Prof. Xinhua Wan from Peking University, Prof. Yiwang Chen from Nanchang University, Prof. Xinyuan Zhu from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Research Fellow Xuesi Chen from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Research Fellow Zhenzhong Yang from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered their academic reports on optically active polymers, graphene supercapacitors, synthesis and application of novel fluorescent polymers, PLA three-dimensional composites, Janus composites, respectively. Their reports showed every attendant the unique charm of functional polymer materials and the frontier applications of polymers in energy, biomedical & chemical industries. Prof. Guosong Chen, Prof. Wuli Yang, Prof. Min Chen, Prof. Shuxue Zhou, and Prof. Ziqi Liang, all of which were young scholars from Fudan University, presented their own latest research findings. Prof. Limin Wu of our department delivered the closing speech and made a wonderful conclusion on the forum.

On the morning of October 17, the conference participants visited the Achievements Exhibition Hall for the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Molecular Engineering and some important equipment; additionally, they carried out further exchanges on the development of polymer materials.

With its abundant contents, the frontier forum fully not only displayed the latest research findings in the science and technology of polymer materials in China, but also having effectively promoted the academic exchange and discipline development. Dozens of students from the Department of Polymers and the Materials Science of Fudan University participated in the frontier forum. The forum enabled them to learn about the latest advances of polymer science and technology in China, and to intensify their understanding of the basic advances and practical application of polymer materials.
