In February 2025, in the third Xianghui Academic and Cultural Festival of Fudan University, Professor Yu Yanlei's research group won the honorary title of "Xianghui Research Group" for its outstanding performance in the project of "Research and Application of new technology for Rapid Auxiliary diagnosis of senile Comorbidiosis".

With the aging of the population, the problem of senile comorbidity has become increasingly prominent, and multiple chronic diseases have caused the quality of life of the elderly to decline, the mortality rate to rise, multiple drugs and medical expenditure to increase, which has become a serious public health challenge. At present, the analysis of biomarkers for chronic diseases in the elderly relies on professional medical institutions to collect venous blood samples and detect them on large-scale automated equipment, which limits large-scale population disease screening, patient follow-up and management, especially in rural areas with weak medical resources. In this context, Professor Yu Yanlei's research group is committed to developing new micro-fluid control technologies based on photodeformable materials, combined with highly sensitive new detection modes, to provide powerful tools for large-scale disease screening and big data research.

In order to better promote the project, the research group actively carried out practical research and academic exchanges. On July 26, 2024, the research group visited Zhejiang Baotai Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. to investigate the market situation of microfluidic related in vitro diagnostic reagents and testing equipment, understand their principles, types and technical advantages, and discuss with the company how to improve and optimize products to match the optical fluidic technology developed by the research group. Through this practice, the students have a deeper understanding of the industrialization of microfluidic devices and school-enterprise cooperation.

In terms of academic exchanges, the research group invited Professor Cao Xin from Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University and Associate Researcher Xu Ming from Shanghai Jiao Tong University to visit the Department of Materials Science on November 7, 2024, to hold a forum on the intersection of materials and Life health. Nearly 25 teachers, students and industry experts gathered together to explore new technologies for rapid assisted diagnosis of senile comorbidities. The two experts respectively introduced the team's research work and discussed with teachers and students how to promote the interaction of materials disciplines and medicine to better promote the development of advanced medical devices.

This award is a high recognition of Professor Yu Yanlei's research group's research and practice in this field. In the future, the research group will continue to deepen research, strengthen industry-university-research cooperation, improve China's ability to cope with elderly comorbidity, and look forward to more outstanding talents to join, and jointly explore the frontier of the intersection of materials and life health.
